Exploring the Majestic Trails of Southern California at Mt. Baldy
Welcome to Mt. Baldy, where adventure and natural beauty meet. Whether you're an avid hiker or simply seeking a breathtaking escape from the every day, our mountain has something to offer for everyone.
Scenic Chairlift Adventure
Begin your journey at the Ski Area parking lot, a gateway to one of Southern California's most beloved hiking trails. For an exhilarating start, hop on our Mt. Baldy Scenic Chairlift. This incredible experience is available on weekends during the summer months. The chairlift takes you to an elevation of 7,800 feet, right to the doorstep of the iconic Top Of The Notch Restaurant. On a clear day, you can even catch a glimpse of Catalina Island, a mesmerizing sight roughly 70 miles away.
The Path to Mt. Baldy's Summit
For those with an adventurous spirit and a love for a good challenge, the journey to the summit of Mt. Baldy (10,069 feet) begins from the Top Of The Notch. The trail along Devil's Backbone is the most popular route, stretching roughly three and a half miles each way, with a 2,200-foot elevation gain. A successful summit requires proper hiking equipment and a solid understanding of mountain terrain. But the awe-inspiring views make every step worth the effort.
A Strenuous Alternative
Another path to the peak takes hikers along the service road from the Ski Area parking lot to the Top Of The Notch Restaurant. This route covers approximately six miles and involves a 3,500-foot elevation gain, making it a more strenuous option compared to the chairlift. For those who crave a challenge and a deeper connection with the mountains, this hike provides a rewarding experience.
Mt. Baldy's Grand Vista
The summit of Mt. Baldy, aptly named for its treeless, flat expanse, offers an unparalleled panorama. As the highest peak in the Angeles National Forest, it provides sweeping views of Southern California's cities, deserts, mountains, and the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. The hike to the summit is an adventure you'll treasure forever. And on your way back, a well-deserved treat awaits at The Notch. Reward yourself with a refreshing craft brew and a mouthwatering Notch Burger. You've earned it!
For Ski Enthusiasts
If you're visiting Mt. Baldy during the winter season, please note that skiing regulations apply. Uphill travel or "skinning" up the mountain is not permitted for safety reasons.
