Enjoy the Mountains Responsibly: Safety at Mt. Baldy Resort
Are you ready to embark on a skiing or snowboarding adventure at Mt. Baldy Resort? Whether you're drawn by the beauty of the mountains, the thrill of the slopes, or the love of outdoor recreation, preparation is key to ensuring your trip is enjoyable and, most importantly, safe.
Safety is a Shared Responsibility:
While the mountains are undoubtedly stunning and tons of fun, it's important to remember they can also pose certain risks. It is your responsibility to enjoy the mountains responsibly, respecting the environment and others. If you come across an emergency or witness one, please don't hesitate to report it. Our dedicated personnel are stationed at the top and bottom of each operating chairlift, as well as at most facilities, ready to assist. When reporting an incident, provide details about the type of injury, location, and description of the injured person.
Your Responsibility Code:
Skiing can be enjoyed in various ways, including alpine, snowboarding, telemark, cross-country, and other specialized equipment. Regardless of how you decide to experience the slopes, it's essential to display courtesy and be aware that there are inherent risks in skiing. Common sense and personal awareness can go a long way in reducing these risks. Follow the code below and share the responsibility for a great skiing experience:
- Always stay in control and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.
- People ahead of you have the right of way. It's your responsibility to avoid them.
- Don't stop where you obstruct a trail or aren't visible from above.
- When starting downhill or merging into a trail, look uphill and yield to others.
- Use devices to prevent runaway equipment.
- Observe all posted signs and warnings. Stay off closed trails and out of closed areas.
- Before using any lift, make sure you have the knowledge and ability to load, ride, and unload safely.
Kids on Lifts:
To ensure your child's visit is as safe and enjoyable as possible, we strongly recommend reviewing these nine safety tips with them before their first chairlift ride:
- Your small child may be assisted by the lift operator unless instructed differently by their parent or guardian.
- A small child should not ride a chairlift alone.
- When riding with your child, position them on the side next to the lift operator.
- If your child uses ski poles, they should remove the straps from their wrists and hold them in one hand away from the vertical bar while loading.
- Once ready, your child should quickly move from the waiting area to the loading area.
- As the chair approaches, your child should turn to the inside or outside of the chair (depending on the lift they're riding) and grab onto the vertical pole.
- Remind your child to hold onto the vertical bar next to them all the way up the chairlift.
- Your child should sit all the way back in the chair with their back touching the backrest.
- Emphasize that your child should sit still until they reach the unloading area.
If assistance is needed when loading small children or for guests of any age, our qualified lift staff is here to help.
Park Smart:
Remember these tips when you're in the terrain park:
- Start small and work your way up to build your skills.
- Make a plan for every feature, every time.
- Always look before you drop.
- Respect the features and other users.
- Know your limits and take it easy. Try to land on your feet.
